Introduction
Daoism is a philosophy that the Chinese had used a long time ago. It taught the Chinese to live in peace and harmony. Daoists are people that believe in Daoism. The Chinese also believed in Yin and Yang. The Dao De Jing is a small manuscript that was written by Laozi (also spelled Lao-tzu). Daoism is based on ideas of the Dao.
Daoists
Daoists are people who follow a philosophy called Daoism. Daoists think that nature is full of opposites. Daoists live in peace and harmony by following Daoism, because Daoism teaches people to live a simple life. Daoists also believe in immortality.
They tried special diets, yoga exercises, and “magic potions” in attempts to get immortality.
Dao De Jing (Tao Te Ching)
The Dao De Jing is a small manuscript of 5,000 characters written by Laozi (also spelled Lao-tzu) Other people think that it was written over time by many writers. The Dao De Jing preached a return to a simple and natural way of living.
Dao
Dao, which means “The Way”, is the force that guides all things. Daoism was based on ideas from Dao. Dao taught inwardness and harmony with self to achieve balance and harmony with others and the natural world.
Yin and Yang
The Yin Yang symbol means the ancient Chinese understanding of how things work. Only true harmony comes from Yin and Yang. Yin means “shaded” and Yang means “sunlit”. Yin and Yang are complementary opposites. Yin also means ( the receptive, feminine, dark, and passive force), and Yang also means ( the creative, masculine, bright, and active force.
Conclusion
That’s what people taught a long time ago when the Zhou Dynasty had started in China. That’s how Daoism influenced China at that time. That’s why the Chinese used Daoism, for right living and good government.
